Sheppard Robson is a creative collective - a meritocracy where the best ideas are promoted, developed and implemented. We do not adhere to a predetermined architectural doctrine. Rather, each project is seen as an opportunity to explore ideas that are uniquely defined by their brief, cultural and geographical context and the collective aspirations of the client and design team.
The practice was established 70 years ago and whilst it has undergone significant change with each new generation of partners, the guiding principles on which it was founded remain the same: Innovation, Sustainability and Social Conscience. Today these core values continue to shape the practice.
Innovation is central to the practice and is encapsulated in the Design Lab - a process and methodology for creative design. Of equal importance is our commitment to sustainability, which influences everything we do. Our Sustainability Group works throughout the practice and across all projects to develop meaningful sustainability propositions. Social Conscience permeates everything that we do.
Today, Sheppard Robson has over 350 architects, designers, technicians and support staff in offices in London, Manchester and Glasgow. Our projects cover a diverse range of building typologies: Schools, Colleges, Universities, Offices, Headquarters, Interiors (ID:SR), Residential, Science, Healthcare, Retail, Hotels and Arts and Cultural buildings. Many of our projects combine typologies to create large-scale mixed-use schemes. We work from the macro-scale of urban design and masterplanning through to the micro-scale of interiors and product design.
The ideas we promote
What distinguishes us from our peers and competitors is made explicit in the buildings we create and the ideas we promote. Our history continues to inform our work, but it is the breadth and depth of creative talent and our design led processes that define Sheppard Robson today.
The common recurring themes including social conscience, innovation, technology transfer, sustainability and efficiency, have resulted in award winning design and can be traced back through some of the early projects in the practice.
